AFTER NATURE: VIRTUAL ART FAIR

30 April - 17 May 2020

Following the cancellation of AAF2020 the amazing team at Auckland Art Fair have put together the Virtual Art Fair, which will take place online from Thurs 30 April - Sun 17 May at artfair.co.nz.

After Nature borrows from a work of the same name by artist Jade Townsend, which in turn recalls German poet W. G. Sebald’s long prose poem that explores humankinds’ place in the natural world. The exhibition itself brings together a selection of works by different artists as something of a romantic ode to the natural world. As we sit inside looking wistfully through our windows and yearning for those quotidian freedoms we once took for granted, we are struck by a renewed appreciation of nature. The curious angle of a tree branch that looks peculiarly like a bent elbow. A new shoot moving determinedly upward through a crack in the concrete. The smell of fresh cut grass that catapults us back to childhood. A view across the water to the opposite shore. The way the cloud shifts across the sky. The charge in the air just before a storm rolls in. After Nature is a celebration, albeit tinged with melancholy, and a germane reminder of our humanity.

With the generous support of our artists, a percentage of our online sales for the Virtual Art Fair will be donated to KidsCan. To find out more about their important work visit https://www.kidscan.org.nz/
